Faith stood on the edge of the hellmouth. Below her she could she the vast expanse of torment and destruction born straight from the fires of hell. Taking a step closer, she held out her hands, covered in blood, letting it drip down into the sea of evil that called her name. Summoning up the courage to throw herself in, she closed her eyes. Then behind her she heard a familiar voice.
"What are you waiting for?"
She spun round to see Henry looking back at her. His face was a bloody mess. He looked as he had done lying on the floor beneath her, but this time he was grinning.
"Someone to stop me..." she replied.
"Then you're out of luck, kitten. No-one's gonna save you now. They're all frightened of you." Tears began to stream down her cheeks.
"Face it Faithy, your just a killer." He walked closer to her, grabbing her wrists as he got near. "And here's the proof!" He held her hands in front of her face, forcing her to look at the blood. Her legs gave way and she fell to her knees, sobbing.
"I can't be that again!" She screamed, pulling her hands away.
"Oh, but you will, it's your destiny. One girl in all the world. Chosen. Chosen to kill!" She looked down at her hands, letting her tears fall onto them.
"You are the Slayer." The voice changed, she was surprised to see Angel looking back at her. He knelt down and wiped a tear from her cheek. "You've still a long way to go." His voice was soothing, as he helped her to stand.
"I don't know if I can control it. I'm scared....I can't do this alone...." she said, almost pleading with him. He held her in his arms. Safe.
"You probably won't." The voice had changed again, becoming threatening. When she looked back up, it was Wesley holding her. "Goodbye Faith." he said matter of factly, as he pushed her back into the abyss.
She woke up screaming into her pillow. Her nails dug into it like she was clinging on for dear life. As her scream died, she realised it had been a nightmare. As vivid and real as it seemed, it was still only a nightmare. She turned to lye on her back and remembered what had happened the night before. How she had nearly killed Elder. How she had stood too close to the edge, and only just managed to reel herself back in.
Slowly the pain set back in. Her injuries, though they felt like they'd healed more, were still sore. That's your punishment. Take it like a Slayer. She sat up and rubbed her eyes. Making her way into the bathroom, she stared at herself in the mirror again. Still a long way to go...
